Emergency Department
The dedicated team of physicians, nurses and other health
professionals provide an exceptional level of care, knowledge, skill
and compassion for each patient. We provide comprehensive care for
a wide range of patients and we strive to continuously improve how
we treat acute illnesses and injuries.
At the emergency dept patients are allocated to be seen within
specialist areas of the ED according to the nature of their injury/illness.
The Emergency service will respond immediately to those people who
are acutely ill, or have life or limb-threatening problems.
The majority of people, however, who attend the Emergency
Department have minor, non-life-threatening or non-limb-threatening
injuries and illnesses.
Patients attending the casualty dept is classified as below:
High Dependency
E.g. Stroke, breathing difficulties, severe abdominal pain.
Resuscitation
E.g. Severe trauma, heart attack, unconscious patients.
Low Dependency
E.g. Abdominal pain, unwell, overdose, Asthma.
Minor Injury
E.g. Fractures, lacerations, minor illness.
Paediatrics
Any children’s injuries and illness that does not require intensive care.
The department has the following facilities:
Patients are cared for on two sides
minor and major. The minor side has
6 cubicles and the major side has three cubicles
Each bed has monitor and oxygen and suction facilities. There are
further beds for less acutely ill patients in an eight 7 bed bay. The
resuscitation room is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment with
access to pumps, Defibrilator, suction and gases.
The emergency dept has doctors, nurses available 24hrs.
The emergency department staff consists of specially skilled and
certified doctors and nurses who are trained to handle life-threatening
situations, such as heart attacks, automobile accidents and major
illnesses. Their years of experience and extra-caring attitude enables
them to in addition to treating minor accidents such as sprains, cuts and
abrasions. |
